Doula Training FAQ

Q: What sets Doulas of Discernment Doula Training apart?
A: Our Full Spectrum Doula Training program is a Black owned and led training that focuses on birth work, cultural competency, holistic care, and community building. At the end of our 4 day intensive training, you will receive a nationally recognized certification. Our training features resource building, post training assignments, and community led mentorship afterwards to ensure our doulas are well-equipped to support their clients.

Q: Is the doula training program recognized by any organizations?
A: Yes, our doula training program is currently recognized by Houston NAACP, PUSH, Harris Health, and March of Dimes. March of Dimes has partnered with our doula training and has gracefully awarded multiple women of color full ride scholarships in efforts to increase maternal health and birth outcomes in the Houston area.
 
Q: What is the time commitment for the doula training program?
A: Our doula training program is an intensive 4 day course, which can either be completed virtually (from anywhere in the U.S) or in-person. We also offer shadow opportunities at births for hands-on experience in the Houston area, based on availability. Please expect to be in class from 10:00 AM CT - 5:00 PM CT each day.

Q: What about financial obligations?

A: Our in person training is $850 and our live virtual option is $600. Both are payment plan eligible. All final payments are due by 11/23/26. Simply apply for the PayPal pay later option  during checkout. If you do not qualify through PayPal, please reach out to us and we will set up a manual payment plan via invoice, there is a non refundable deposit of $100. Those that will be traveling out of state to join the in person training may qualify for a discounted rate once proof of travel plans are shown. You can also pay in full on our website via PayPal, credit, or debit card.

Q: What is covered in the Doula training? What if I have already taken a training?

A: Our Doula training is full spectrum - that means we cover: Preconception, birth, postpartum, pregnancy & infant loss, infant feeding, baby wearing, look at a live placenta, AND MORE. We have had plenty of trainees that have taken other trainings that have not covered even half of what ours entails. We do not give discounts for those that don't plan on practicing or those who have taken training elsewhere. We DO give steep discounts if you have taken our training before & desire a refresher. All trainees will receive their certification within 30 days of your class, depending on your completing your coursework. Our training does not force doulas to take on free clients in order to gain certification. 

Q: Do you have any scholarships currently?

A: Although we have had multiple cohorts that have been offered scholarships and partial scholarships, we do not currently have any available for the upcoming December class. We do offer payment plans. 

Q: Where is the December Doula training being held? What is the difference between the virtual option and in person option?

A: The in-person training will be held at 14120 Tower Glen Lane Conroe TX 77306 which is 40 minutes from Downtown Houston and about 20 minutes from The Woodlands. Our virtual option entails trainees being on zoom simultaneously while the in-person training is in session. Our training contains a lot of lecture and classroom discussion. Once we arrive to the hands-on portion, we will show the virtual students all angles so that they can get the best out of the training.

Q: I'm ready to start!

A: Feel free to send us an email (HarmoniousBirthing@gmail.com), text 281-768-1497, or message us through our chat feature on our website. Include your full name, your phone number, and email address for an invoice, and which class you would like to take (in person or virtual). We will then send an invoice in which you will need to place a $99 nonrefundable deposit to book a ticket. You may pay any increment amount per month, as long as your final balance is paid off by November 23, 2026.
